Save Palawan

Hi there, I just signed the online petition to save Palawan’s forests from mining and thought you might want to sign as well.
You can sign it here: http://no2mininginpalawan.com
National Geographic named Palawan as one of its top-20 destinations for 2011. It has 17 Key Biodiversity Areas and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites that are at risk from mining.
If we don’t do anything, the future for Palawan’s indigenous people and rare endemic species is bleak. Please sign the petition, then forward this email to some friends and ask them to do the same. We know the strength of People Power, now it’s time for Palawan Power!
Thanks!

When Fate Perform Its Role

According to Philosophers, Fate or destiny is a predetermined course of events that is beyond human’s control.
I was in college when I finally put justification and boundaries to myself regarding falling in love as I observed that I look for too ideal partners and at the end be failed.
I was 19 years old when I decided to restrict myself from falling and looking for love as I am already graduating the next school year but fate came in and started to play the cupid’s game. We were schoolmates in high school but never been so close, we have so many common friends but we never became friends until one day when the cupid’s arrow hit us and that started it all.
I don’t have any thought that this man will be the one that will fit the ideals that I keep on praying. He is the best among any other man I met in fact better than my dad if he will become a father in the future. He is giving his everything just to make me happy but makes sure that I won’t be spoiled; he shows his love for my family without any reservation, and the best thing about him, he never gave me up.

We faced recently a typhoon in our relationship. I thought it will be the end of everything but I was wronged, from past experiences when I broke up with my past boyfriends it was already the end and never did I see my ex fight for me back however we remained to be good friends but with this guy he analyze his mistake while giving me a space to think over my failures, he pray that everything will be fine, he asked for the Lord’s guidance in conquering the battle and when he sees that it’s already the right time he made ways to win me back.

For one month of brokenness, he never let me feel it. Every day he always calls me up to check if I am fine, he always visits me before he goes to work, he make sure that I will eat my breakfast before I start my day, he sends me flower and cards, he showed me the better side of him and how glad and fulfilled his day when I am with him.

Everything healed; we admitted each other’s mistake and it was indeed a roller coaster journey for the both of us.

This proves that when God already predestined you to be together let it be forever for whatever trials that will come your way every circumstances will be well.

No man could invade the fate that God prepared.

VISION: A LEADERSHIP APPROACH

(DYEC Christmas Institute, December 26-27, 2010

PRESENTED BY: ROMELYN V. TUTAAN)

Vision
*    A direction—an attractive and attainable picture of the future.
*    It is meant to solve real issues and move people to new behaviors.
*    As a leader, if you don't know where you are going, you are irrelevant to you followers. With a vision you can inspire and lift individuals and groups to new heights.
Part 1: Discover the Vision
*    An agenda is a vision.
*    Construct the vision, the most crucial step.
*    A vision should have a purpose. It must motivate people by asking them to change to achieve a new level of behavior
*    The vision should be understood by the team so that they will cooperate well. Everyone needs to be able to have a part in the vision.
*    The vision is not a dream it is real
*     It should be pragmatic
*    It should be something that you are sincerely passionate about.
*    It achieves a purpose or result.
*    The vision can be somewhat dynamic and fluid considering the changes in the times and needs of the group.
*     It should be well thought out so that you are able to anticipate the upcoming realities of a given situation and adjust your vision accordingly.
Part 2: Disseminate the Vision
*    You need to communicate it throughout the organization. You need to make the vision real. Put it in the heart and not just the mind.
*    Create the meaning.
*    Establish a standard, set a tone from day one.
*    You need more than words, speeches, memos, and laminated plaques. Embody it and empower every other person to execute that vision in everything he or she does
*    Anchor it in realities, so that it becomes a template for decision making.
Actions do speak louder than words.”

Part 3: Drive the Vision Forward
*    You must make the vision a sustainable part of the group or organization by evaluating everything done in light of the vision and making the appropriate changes where necessary.
*    All decisions must be made in light of the vision. Your people need to be allowed to be responsive to the vision.
*    Find out which people in your organization have the vision “written on their hearts” and have a feel for when decisions, policies and procedures are causing the vision to get off-track. These people can help you make the course corrections you need to make that will help to stabilize and keep the vision in place.
*    A vision is meant to solve real issues. Getting good feedback will help you to ensure that the vision is always realistic and appropriately meaningful.

Remember:
God is the best visionary LEADER for he created the world.
“The real strength of a leader is the ability to elicit the strength of a group.
Our accomplishments are restricted by our ability to lead & influence others.
Leadership is intentional influence from a great vision.”

When I Quench My Hunger

As early as Grade Four, my spirit started to search for the best sect where I can see the image of Jesus.
If you will let me define a best sect, it is a place where in your spirit will smile upon going out while unity and peace is within everyone.
This dilemma was started when I broaden the perspective of my spiritual being and when I started to starve for Jesus.
In my childhood days I was an active member of a certain CHURCH, I used to attend there Sunday school and participate in its customary activities but when my uncle married someone from other sect and she invited me to join them one Sunday, I experienced something better as if a gate was opened to me, but my family believes in the former, I went back the next Sunday to the old rituals, it’s good during that Sunday when my mom sent me to the church for my Sunday School she saw scenes which should not be blurted inside the holy place.
And, that started my journey of meeting who really is Jesus. I stayed in my Auntie’s Sect until fourth year high school but when she went abroad I have to stop going there for reasons I cannot remember but the leaders never gave up on me in fact they are the one who delivered the last service for my favorite uncle’s wake year 2004.
After high school when college killed my times and sleep was already hard to achieved, I woke up so late during Sundays the reason that I and my best friend goes to another church every afternoon. And to be candid, I feel more pleasured with their gospels compared to the CHURCH (our family go). I even became an active member of our college organization representing that church.
Not to mention I tried joining most of my friends religious sect just so that I can fulfill my spiritual needs.
When I graduated in college I immediately landed in a job at a Christian School and here I finally met Jesus, I always relieve with His words every Friday in our bible studies, I learned to read the Bible and use it in my daily life, my spirit was lifted high, the prayers are so powerful, the devotions really knocks my heart. Then I resigned for personal purposes. The blast meet-up with Jesus has reduced.
I learned to accept my former CHURCH, I went back, I gave a chance wherein I know that if ever I won’t hear good news I can have my daily devotion to communicate with Jesus every day. I joined their activities through the influenced of my friends, I saw the loop holes in its organization particularly the Youth, however I shared my time to them realizing that loop holes are just normal in any other sect, it’s the spices to make it better. I helped in as much as I can, I shared the things I know, I worked with them and befriend with them. Thinking from my heart that this might be God’s calling to me, to stay in a church where He know I can do something, a reason why with the long travel that I had I keep on going back. I opened my life to them and showed my best that at least I can improve something, at first, everything was fine until every time that I spent my days with them I can see the scenes that flashes back from my memories, scenes that a church should not have, scenes which became reasons why it made me uninterested to attend Sunday mass, and each day I envy other churches from other places. What’s wrong with us? Why can’t we be like our brothers and sisters form other places? May I enumerate some of the scenes which kills my humanity and morality as a member of this church:
1.      Holy Place particularly the convent became unholy because it is used as a place for drinking sessions. Isn’t it Jesus got mad when he saw that Jerusalem was being abused by people?
2.      Gospels are not read properly and sermons cannot understand by church goers(some priest cannot deliver their sermons well). Isn’t it that sermons and the gospel should be the clearest and the most spiritual part of the mass? How about giving notices or thanking sponsors as part of the sermon is it good?
3.      Some church workers cannot move without money, where is the spirit of sharing and helping?
4.      Some leaders are selfish. Yes I am not afraid in this 4th statement they really are, they just think of the things that could make their personal goals better. How could a church improve if the simple call is not being faced or addressed well? They are inactive to their obligations.
I foreseen a lot of projects for this CHURCH but few are supportive, how can I alone do this things, I am a member not the organization, an organization needs hand in hand support to make its goal happen, support not only from fellow members but from the higher bodies. How can I continue sharing things I know if nobody is interested anymore? My willingness to help is already diminished. How can I help my fellow youth who are thirsty too of good ways from our church if these “some” are so self centered?(bato bato sa langit ang tamaan mabubukolan!)
I stand to be corrected with the issues I presented. I just shout my silence that I am no longer happy with the paradox I am witnessing.
With the things mentioned above there are many questions running in my mind, am I not fully in love yet with my church? Or am I disrespecting them? Maybe, I was too closed to them that they shown their real attitudes but they should act accordingly and try to at least respect and give justice to the orders of the place where they are getting there means of living. For that, I’m sorry but my goal is to be involved in a better sect I accept the fact that all leaders and servers are just human and can commit mistakes but I believed also, that too many mistakes can become sin, and too many sin will eventually become norms.
As of now, I am still with them hoping and praying that the future generation will not continue the bad legacy they are witnessing instead they will improve and do much better than what is happening right now.
With this long journey I understand that it’s not with the church, it’s in the belief and the attitude of the person, I realized that as early as my pre-natal days I already met Jesus, whatever church l belong right now, it may not make me happy Jesus is within me and my journey towards finding the right place of worship still continues as I grow old.
For those who will be able to read this who are related to the things I mentioned I’m sorry writing is my avenue to pour out my heartaches. I hope this can open your hearts as well!
For now, I will remain to be a Sunday mass worshiper, I will not involved myself anymore in any youth activities for me to avoid witnessing this ills of my church.
May God be with you all!
I made this Sunday, Oct 17 2:46a.m. and thought of publishing it this January 2011.
Thinking if I will continue to stay or start my journey again to finally join a church where I can be happy ;)
Some readers might have bad impressions on this but it’s ok coz my objective is just to share the feelings I have right now! And by this time I am fulfilled……….

Guest Speaker Kindergarten Graduation (I delivered during the Kindergarten Graduation 2010 of R.B.Ablan Elem School)

I will remember my first graduation when I finished kindergarten. This was when I learned basic principles in life like. Share everything, Play fair, Don't hit people, Put things back where you found them, Don't take things that are not yours, Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody, Wash your hands before you eat, Learn some and think some, and draw, paint, sing, dance, play and work a little bit everyday, Take a nap in the afternoon, When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together, Be aware of the wonder of God's creation.

Everything you need to know is there somewhere. The golden rule and love, and basic sanitation, ecology, politics and sane living. Think of what a better world we could have if we all decide to follow what we learned when we were in kindergarten.
I can still remember how my teachers during my formative years motivate me to be who I am today.
To our beloved principal Mrs. Gladys G. Domingo, DepEd officials, PTCA officers and members, teaching and non-teaching staff of this school, parents, other platform guests, my young dear graduates, ladies and gentlemen a blessed afternoon.
It is indeed my great honor and privilege to come back to where I graduated in the elementary, my beloved Roque B. Ablan Elementary School. I consider this institution closest to my heart for I did not only spend my formative years here but, at the same time I had my student teaching here 2 years ago. Hopefully, I will stay here for the rest of my professional life.
May I address this to the graduates: Look at what I am holding right now. What is it? Yes, a butterfly. A butterfly is the best example of life because it undergoes different stages. As an egg, this symbolizes days of conception, after few weeks it will develop into a caterpillar. This is the kindergarten phase where you are right now, time of exploration and survival. Then, the caterpillar will turn into a pupa which cautions you to stop for a moment, to sharpen yourselves to become better persons. Finally, into a very beautiful butterfly, metamorphosis reaches its final stage. Here blooms a very beautiful and colorful butterfly, there you achieve success.

Education is your greatest treasure which your neighbors or any other people cannot steal it away from you. Remember also that education, for it to be successful, should not be limited in the confines of the classroom. So explore as you move on and up of your life.
To the parents, this is the crucial stage of your children’s life, guide them in their exploration. Show them the beauty of their surroundings. As stated in a TV commercial the child said ”I did it mom I traded my sandwich for a kiss sorry na ah. I played in the rain but I made a new friend I learned to think of others. I tried and tried mom Im sorry I got stinky I got dirty but see I learned”. This shows how kids learn by experience, exploration and exposure. Let them grow, let them go.Anything that they do today will be treasure in their future. And, save for them too, as they are still starting in their education it is also best to start earning and saving for their degree in college. They will be your precious jewels when they will achieve their goals.
To the teaching staff especially to the Kinder teacher, Ma’am Kirstein, friend, I salute you! I know how hard to be a teacher for I am one but indeed you started to nourish and motivate the life long journey of this children who are moving on to their  next level of education. Im sure you will be proud someday looking at them as great leaders of our society. In God’s time, you will receive your ROI- Return of Investment.
May I also take this opportunity to extend my warmest and heartfelt thanks to my former teachers for my success is your success too to Mrs. Español, Mrs. Pilar, Ms. Sampayan, Mrs. Paulino, Mrs. Orpilla, and my beloved Mrs. Colobong. You sharpened me so well.
My speech may be so brief but with the short time given me to be with you this afternoon, I was able to impart an inspiration to guide you and light your ways in the higher level or bracket of education. I pray for your successful journey.
As I go back to my seat may I end up this great opportunity with this acronym that serves as my guiding principle in life.

My 5S
Study hard
Stay humble
Save your family among any other
Smile to enjoy your exploration, and
Surrender your life to the Lord

Follow this and surely you will achieve life’s greatest pleasure. Thank you and May God bless you all. Congratulations!

For my beloved Mother-Mrs. Elizabeth Tamayo Valdez-Tutaan (I presented during the Mothers Day 2010 celebration of IFI, Laoag)

Having a mother like you while growing up was the greatest gift and biggest advantage anyone could ever give me. It is because of the confidence and values that you instilled in me that made me who I am today. Thank you for shaping me into a person who I like and am proud to be. Thank you for letting me believe that we could be whoever I wanted to be, do whatever I wanted to do, there were no limitations except my drive, ambition and creativity.
Having you in my life is a sanity saver for me. If there was a text book on how to be the perfect mother to a daughter, it would have you as the role model.
Thank you for your unwavering support throughout my journey.
Thank you for reading all the books that I read, thank you for learning about a world that must be so foreign to you.
Thank you for taking me to hospital and sitting with me while I am sick
Thank you for meeting my friends, for always taking an interest in what we were doing.
Thank you for holding my hand when I had my problems and, for crying with me afterwards.
Thank you for always having hope for me when I didn’t have for myself.
Thank you for telling me not to give up when I said I couldn’t do it anymore.
Thank you for loving me through all of my rejections of help and love.
Thank you for sending me that text messages every time you can’t see me around
Thank you for being the perfect mother and my pillar of strength.
Thank you for saying to me, with your whole heart, that you love me 100%.
Thank you for you supported me throughout all my decisions, even though I know it was very hard for you.
Thank you for being there for me, when other people didn’t know what to do with me or for me when I was so raw with grief.
Thank you, for everything you have done for me and will still do, thank you for everything you have said, and for all the times when you said nothing and just listened.
Thank you for being my good luck charm, my teacher, my nurse, my engineer, my doctor, my accountant, my muse, my hero, my savior, my therapist, my cook
Thank you for being such a wonderful mother.
Thank you for million things, for everything. I don’t know what I would do without you.
Thank you mother, I love you, more than words can ever express.

MY CHRISTMAS WISHES By Romelyn Tutaan

INTRODUCTION
(Voice over  narration: Before there was earth or sea or heaven, there existed only chaos: shapeless, unorganized, lifeless matter. There was no sun, no moon, and no air. Elements existed, but they had neither form nor character. The earth was without firmness, the water without fluidity, and the sky without light. there was opposition in all things: hot conflicted with cold, wet with dry, heavy with light, and hard with soft. Finally a God, a natural higher force, resolved this conflict.)
